I am a big NBA fan, and I’m just grateful to see one of the NBA players I respect so much finally get inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame: Alonzo Mourning. He deserves it. Here’s why.
In the early years of his career, Alonzo Mourning (nicknamed Zo) has been a master of a basketball niche: He is one of the best defensive players in the NBA. His tenacity and tough defense style have earned him two NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Unfortunately, the fairytale career nearly ended abruptly in 2000. He had to undergo a kidney transplant due to his life-threatening kidney disease. Something that would almost definitely put an NBA player’s career into an end.
Well, for others, maybe – but not for Alonzo.
He made a comeback. He still has it, but his playing time was limited for some obvious reasons. But in the limited time, Zo plays with the same tenacity he has before the transplant.
And as we all know, even the most physically able NBA players will still feel exhausted due to the 82 games (more if your team made it to the Playoffs,) a season-long travels across the US (and Canada), and a series of events you need to attend to.
Zo thrives and continue to work hard, something that contribute to the team he was played for, the Miami Heat. The Heat won the 2006 NBA Championship with Alonzo Mourning changing the game from the bench. Zo was 35 years old.
Zo finally retired in 2009 with the word “RESPECT” written all over him. He is an inspiration, and it’s about time Zo is inducted in the NBA Hall of Fame.
Here’s a look at Zo’s career:
